Lifeguard Course Certification
All course details are outlined below. Payment is due in full upon start of class and can be paid via cash or check only.
Full Course - $200
The full course is conducted over three sessions: May 28th 11a-7p | May 29th 8a-6p | May 30th 8a-6p
- Participant must attend all course sessions in full.
- Participant must be 15 years of age or above.
- Participant must know how to swim and feel comfortable in and under the water.
- Participant must have an email address to use for registration (no shared emails).
- Bring sack lunch, we will have a “working lunch” each day.
- Participant must bring modest swimming attire, towel, and clothes. Multiple towels suggested as we will be going back and forth between classroom and pool throughout the day.
The course begins with a prerequisite testing session. This is per American Red Cross teaching guidelines. Details of the two tests are:
- Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence
- Swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (No swimming on the back or side. Swim goggles are allowed.)
- Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
- Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
- Timed Event
- Completed within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.)
- Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Renewal Course - $100
May 27 from 9:00am to 7:00pm
- Participant must hold an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification with expiration date no later than 30 days past the course date.
- Participant must attend the full course session.
- Participant must know how to swim & feel comfortable in and under the water.
- Participant must be able to demonstrate both a front stroke and breaststroke.
- Goggles may only be used on the swim-tread-swim pre-course assessment swim, nose plugs are not permitted.
- Bring your CPR mask. Masks are available for purchase for $15.
- Participant must know their email address used during their initial Red Cross lifeguard training.
- Bring sack lunch as we will have a “working lunch”.
- Participant must bring modest swimming attire, towel, and clothes. Multiple towels suggested as we will be going back and forth between classroom and pool in the course session.
